About the role

The Global Release Manager is a key member of the Sonata Development Team. Working within a team comprising a global set of Architecture, Engineering, Development and Delivery Managers. The Release Manager will be located in one of our Product Engineering locations but co-ordinating with all. The Global Release Manager creates innovative, robust solutions to meet our evolving and expanding requirements in an Agile environment. They are expected to contribute in a collaborative fashion to ensure that both their team and the wider Global Engineering team are successful in achieving their goals.

 

Main activities

Team Leadership

  • Acts as a Servant Leader (in the Scrum sense) and is able to garner respect from his/her team and be willing to get their hands dirty to get the job done.
  • Leadership of a team of Build Engineers, Technical Writers and a Release Project Manager across multiple global releases ensuring to-spec, on-time, high-quality delivery.
  • Works collaboratively with other leaders in an Agile environment to attain common goals.
  • Leads and demonstrates value-add principles to a team in a facilitative manner.
  • Mentors team members to help them grow within their roles and achieve their personal goals.
  • Reviews team member’s performance, providing regular and constructive feedback. If necessary, works with the Management to put in place performance management plans for underperforming team members.

Build Team Leadership

  • Quickly develops the Bravura domain knowledge necessary to contribute to technical decision making processes.
  • Provides insight for all work in progress within the team. Able to critique decisions and manage quality without necessarily being the technical ‘expert’.
  • Manages cross team communications in a positive way for impact assessment, CI of change, test planning.
  • Facilitates the smooth functioning of the team, ensuring that problems are overcome and responsibilities are understood.
  • Promotes Bravura’s global development methodologies, technical architecture, and processes within their teams and be pro-active in improving these.
  • Is attentive to the health of the global base product and suitability of all change being appropriate to other markets and products.

Sonata Release Management

  • Coordinates the readiness of release delivery to Global Development and Professional Services and Operations teams
  • Controls change into trunk/master, branching, tagging, release processes and gates
  • Coordinates dependencies within Development to ensure readiness of release to schedule
  • Manages and coordinates issues and risks related to trunk and branch Builds in a timely manner
  • Ensures the readiness of trunk and branch builds with Build Master
  • Readiness of technical documentation with the documentation team leader
  • Coordinates with Professional Services on any release-related matters
  • Responsible to train PS and Operations teams on new release deployments.
  • Plan out the release with PS and Operations teams
  • Assist the Programme Manager with release reporting function e.g. governance reports

Sonata Documentation

Responsible for the team that:

  • Documents functions and changes to new or modified modules
  • Assists in the development of user guides and training documentation for systems.
  • Ensures all applications are documented according to standards.

Sonata Build Infrastructure and Environment Management

Responsible for the team that:

  • Supplies the low level version control and build system technical infrastructure, with 24×7 availability
  • Contributes to and reviews deployment plans; schedules the installation of new modules, upgrades and fixes to the development and professional services environments.
  • Responsible for the design, setup and maintenance of environments/test bed
  • Builds automated deployments using configuration management technology.
  • Works with Release Management to ensure modules are production ready
  • Communicates risks, impediments and progress in a timely manner.

  • Source Control using Subversion, GITHub
  • Maven, Jenkins, Artefactory, Anthill Pro
  • Advanced level knowledge of relevant Operating System tools, utilities and commands

Typical Experience       

  • Has experience with large/complex Software Product development.
  • Has worked within organizations where typical or best-practice software development methods and practices have been utilised.
  • Likely to have 10+ years’ experience in the computer industry, 5+ years’ experience in team leadership
  • Has a proven record of accomplishment successfully leading software engineering with a strong sense of quality ownership and focus on customer satisfaction.
  • Likely to have 3 years’ experience working on relevant Financial Services software product.
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Likely to have a computer or technology tertiary qualification.
  • Exceptional management skills: clearly communicate deadlines and guarantee success.

Desirable Specialist Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Financial Services.
  • Knowledge of Bravura tools.
  • Knowledge of Bravura software.
